How is Genioplasty Performed?
There are two main types of genioplasty: autologous (osseous) and alloplastic.
Autologous genioplasty involves using the patient's own chin bone, which is cut, manipulated, and repositioned to achieve the desired facial appearance. All incisions are hidden inside your mouth.
Genioplasty can be combine with Jawline (V-line) surgery, orthognathic surgery, and other surgeries.
Alloplastic genioplasty, on the other hand, utilizes artificial implants to reshape the chin.
Common materials for alloplastic genioplasty include titanium, porous polyethylene, or silicone implants.
These implants can be either stock, available in various sizes, or custom-made to fit the patient's anatomy.

CT scans/Cone beam are typically performed to aid in genioplasty planning.
Custom solutions may also be an option for autologous genioplasty.
The choice between autologous and alloplastic genioplasty depends on factors such as the patient's aesthetic goals and other factors.
Dr. Boonipat usually will recommend autologous genioplasty as this is more permanent, natural, and do not leave foreign material in the body. Long term implantation of foreign material can cause resorption (denting) of your normal bone, and also have the risk of infection.
It is an outpatient surgery if perform by itself, and you do not need to stay overnight. Minimal swelling for 1-2 weeks.
