The lower part of the face is influenced strongly by your jaw line.

Some patients have a square jaw, too prominent jaw, protruding jaw, asymmetry. All of these can be modified and improved with jawline reduction surgery with Dr. Boonipat in Lubbock, Texas.

Jawline can be modified in several ways, from the least invasive option of fat grafting/liposuction, all the way to orthognathic surgery with bilateral sagittal split osteotomy where your jawbone is cut apart and put back together. Genioplasty can also be added for further improvement.

Dr. Boonipat have significant experience in his fellowship in jawline modification, which can be done together with jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) or by itself.

Jawline reduction, also known as V-Line jaw surgery, can create a more narrow and tapered chin, giving the patient a more harmonious facial appearance. Functional issues such as your occlusion (how your jaw come together) can be improve at the same time if orthognathic surgery is performed.

In some cases, your buccal fat can also be removed to improve the fullness in your cheek, further enchancing your aesthetics.

How is the surgery done?

Usually there are no external scars and all incisions are hidden inside the mouth.

Dr. Boonipat will also modify your soft tissue such as neck liposuction to give you the best outcome.

V-Line Face

Many East Asian patients aim for facial cosmetic adjustments to attain a less "boxy" appearance. The term "V-line" denotes a chin with a narrower, tapered profile and less angularity at the mandible's back portion near the ear. Desired alterations include reducing prominence in the chin and lower lip while enhancing definition in the upper lip and mid-cheek areas.

Achieving these goals often involves orthognathic surgery combined with genioplasty, angle reduction, or contouring. Further enhancements may include cheekbone reduction, additional contouring, and rhinoplasty. Additional procedures may also be considered based on individual preferences.

Dr. Boonipat have a lot of familiarity with the Asian jaw surgery treatment from his fellowship in Taiwan.

What to expect during and after surgery?

  • What is the difference between oral/maxillofacial surgeon and plastic surgeon?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have a dental background. They went to dental school prior to obtaining their training in maxillofacial surgery. The training involved dental implants, third molar removal, facial fractures, orthognathic surgery, and in some programs free flaps reconstruction for the head and neck. Plastic Surgeons goes to medical school prior to residency. In plastic surgery residency, the training does not involve dental implants, or third molar removal. It does involve facial fractures, orthognathic surgery, free flap reconstruction in the head and neck and the rest of the body. Plastic surgeons also have extensive training in facial aesthetics. Dr. Boonipat further his plastic surgery training with a concentrated fellowship in aesthetic jaw surgery in Taiwan. He is well qualified to address both your functional concerns by working with your orthodontist (braces/teeth doctor), and your aesthetic concerns because of his plastic surgery and fellowship training. In many cases, jaw surgery can be performed with other aesthetic procedures to improve your aesthetic outcome, all under one anesthesia. (See page on combined jaw surgery with rhinoplasty or combined jaw surgery with other facial cosmetic procedures.
